In this case, I started with a set of patents filed by Apple for a digital assistant, and looked at the 250 most similar patents. 250 patents may sound like a lot, but in practice this process is straightforward and systematic. And very quickly ended uncovering a relatively obscure patent that appears to have been successfully asserted against Apple - as the analysis suggested it could be.
